3:10 PM	Tailoring Workflows with Feature Selection for different Organisations by Philipp Hehnle	The need to efficiently adapt common business processes to diverse organizational requirements remains a key challenge. This presentation introduces a novel approach leveraging Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE), utilizing tools like FeatureHouse for feature modelling and FeatureIDE for generating process application variants. In this context, a set of common core artifacts, including a process model, is developed from which concrete process applications can be derived. These derived applications differ in the specific services or logic implementing their activities. When deriving a process application, one or multiple implementations are selected for each activity and included. Furthermore, the presentation addresses the challenge of providing runtime flexibility, allowing users to select features such as notification preferences (e.g., e-mail, mail) through user interface configurations. At runtime, the notification activity then binds to the chosen implementation(s). Another challenge faced by organizations is the need to base workflow decisions on varying information. Consequently, this presentation discloses how to customize the input and output data of activities during process application derivation. For instance, different organizations might require varying initial contact information (postal address vs. e-mail address), and this initial selection can subsequently influence the available notification methods. The proof-of-concept developed with Camunda demonstrates the feasibility and benefits of this approach for creating adaptable process applications in a real-world municipal context. The proof-of-concept was evaluated by domain experts from German municipalities and was found applicable and useful.
