1) Migration from Camunda 7 to Camunda 8 using VanillaBP (Stephan Pelikan - Phactum Softwarentwicklung GmbH)

The “Camunda Platform 7 to 8 Migration Guide” recommends separating the business logic from the API of the Camunda engine in order to keep your own software simple and maintainable and therefore easy to migrate. According to the style of a hexagonal architecture, the adapter pattern is a suitable choice. However, implementing this can prove difficult and too complex in the context of specialist projects.

Stephan Pelikan from Phactum talks about the community initiative VanillaBP, an independent BPMS API that corresponds to the recommended pattern. The necessary adapters for Camunda 7 and Camunda 8 are available as Camunda Community Extensions. A simple process is used as an example to show how VanillaBP simplifies your own code and how migration works. To round things off, Stephan explains which functionality is particularly relevant for productive systems in the context of Camunda 8, which some people are not aware of.

Speaker:

- Stephan Pelikan from Phactum Softwarentwicklung GmbH is a fullstack senior developer, specialized in business process-based software for more than 10 years and co-organizer of the Camunda Vienna Meetup.

2) Camunda for observability in distributed system (Jiri Poledna - Oriflame Software)

In modern distributed systems, performance and reliability hinge on the timely execution of key processes. Critical points—moments where request-response times must be almost immediate—are essential to ensuring the system operates smoothly. This presentation explores how to monitor these critical points as indicators of system health.

Speaker:
- Jiri Poledna is Software Architect at Oriflame Software. He is based in Olomouc, Czechia.
